South Africa after Zuma: What Prospects for Labour? 27 June, 10–12 am, ver.di, Groner Tor Straße 32, Göttingen with Vishwas Satgar, editor of the “Democratic Marxism Book Series”, Co-operative and Policy Alternative Centre (COPAC), University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg and Michelle Williams, chair of the Global Labour University, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.
The current situation of South Africa is polarized in many senses. There is a crisis of parts of the political settings and strategies of the ANC, on the one hand, and on the other hand a rising relevance of workers’ and poor people’s movements. The meeting aims to provide information about the prospects for (organized) labour in this rather complex environment, while also presenting research on the current labour and trade union movement of South Africa. Both speakers have cooperated intensely with German academics and activists, among others as part of the transnational Global Labour University, Kassel. We cordially invite you to take part.
